Car Insurance

Overview

If you want to drive a car in the UAE, you will need to have Car Insurance. Car insurance, also called motor insurance, protects you if you are involved in a collision or injure someone or damage their property. It will also protect you if your vehicle is damaged by fire or if it’s stolen.

How to buy the right car insurance policy?

Every Insurer has different benefits within their motor policy, even though there are only two types of cover available. We make it easier for you to find the one that suits you and your vehicle.

Essentially, there are two levels of cover:

Additional Cover that you can opt for with your Car Insurance For Greater Peace of Mind

A variety of additional features or add-ons to choose from, such as
Courtesy Car (Cash Benefit)

Hire car/Cash Benefit for up to ten days in the event of accident if your car needs repairs.

Windscreen Cover

Covers the cost of repairing or replacing the windscreen if broken or damaged.

Third Party Property Damage

Damage to Third Party Property coverage can be enhanced to AED 5,000,000.

Ambulance Cost

Coverage for cost of ambulance service incurred, following a traffic accident to the Insured Vehicle.

Agency Repairs

Offers the option to extend agency repair coverage for up to five years (subject to previous loss record).

GCC Cover

Sultanate of Oman Extension

Specifically extends territorial coverage to the Sultanate of Oman.

Emergency Medical Expenses

Covers medical expenses (up to specified limit) incurred by the driver/passengers within 24 hours of an accident.

New Replacement Vehicle

Riot, Strike & Civil Commotion

Coverage for loss or damage to the insured vehicle due to riot, strike and civil commotion.

24 Hours Accident and Breakdown Recovery

Offers accident/breakdown recovery services including Vehicle Towing, Battery Boost, Lock Out, Emergency Fuel Delivery, Flat Tyre Service, Off Road Assistance etc.

Personal Accident Cover for Driver and Passengers

Provides financial compensation if the driver or passenger dies or sustains a physical injury in the event of an accident, up to AED 200,000 per person insured.

Covers loss of or damage to the vehicle while being driven off road.

Valet Parking Theft

Covers theft to the Insured Vehicle while in the custody or control of Hotels or Shopping Malls.

Loss of Personal Belongings

Pays you for the value of loss or damage caused to personal belongings by fire, theft or accident while the belongings are in your insured Vehicle.

Natural Disaster

Pays for resulting damage as a result of flood, storm, typhoon, cyclone, hurricane, earthquake or other convulsions of nature.

A comprehensive insurance policy covers you against loss, damage and third-party liability.

You are also protected against:

  • Damage to your motor vehicle due to accidental collision, overturning, fire, external explosion, self-ignition, theft, or a malicious act unless specifically excluded.
  • Accrued legal liability and agreed costs and expenses against third party bodily injury/ property damage arising out of use of motor vehicles unless specifically excluded.

Due to the large number of accidents on the roads, we always advise our customers to opt for the comprehensive car insurance policy. Request a quote for your car today.

This is the basic coverage that is mandatory as per the UAE law. Third-party liability covers you against:

  • Death or bodily injury to any third party/person.
  • Damages to third party property arising out of the use of your motor vehicle.

More importantly, this policy does not cover any damage or loss to your own vehicle.

A number of factors are used to calculate your insurance premium. Some of these are:

  • Your vehicle value
  • The type of cover you chose
  • Your vehicle’s year, make and model
  • Any No-claims discount you’re entitled to
  • The age of driver, as well as their driving and claims history
  • Optional benefits selected by you
  • Location

A no-claims discount (NCD) also known as a no-claims bonus (NCB), is a premium discount which rewards you for not making a claim.

Yes, you can take your NCD with you if you move to a different insurance company. You can also move it to another car if you buy a new one.

If the cover is opted, most insurers offer protection against ‘own damage’ – i.e. damage to your car occurring in Oman. However, with this sort of cover, you’re not insured for third-party damage, which should be purchased separately or at the border.

The excess or deductible is the customer contribution made at the time of non-recoverable claim(s) due to an accident. Non-recoverable motor claims usually occur when an accident is caused by the insurance policy holder.

If you have selected Agency Repairs coverage then your vehicle will be repaired at the vehicle’s authorized dealership. Otherwise, Insurers will select one of their Approved Garages for the repair.

You can cancel the policy in the event of either selling the vehicle or exporting the vehicle. Documents we require are either Number Plate Certificate, De-registration of vehicle or the new registration card from the buyer. Once we have these documents, and subject to there being no claim reported against the policy, the cancellation request will be processed with Insurers and a refund will be given to you.

We do provide insurance for these vehicles but it is on a referral basis only and has to be approved by Insurers.

In order to make a claim, first you need to make sure you have all the necessary documents: original police report, copy of the vehicle’s registration card and copy of your driver’s license. Then you may contact us or the Insurer’s Call Centre Number appearing on your policy and provide them with the details. You will be advised on the next steps forward.
